Synthetic gene

The term ‘synthetic gene’ refers to any DNA fragment that has not been retrieved from natural sources such as the genomic DNA of an organism, but has been assembled in vitro in a laboratory. For methods of assembling synthetic genes, see the corresponding article on gene synthesis.
