Locust searching functionality

Locust is all about finding the sequences you are interested in. For this reason, Locust offers three search features:

  1. Simple search: Just enter part of the name of sequence, part of the actual sequence, a partially homologous sequence, a date or some text you expect to appear in the annotations of a sequence.
  2. Advanced search: If you want more control over your search, in the advanced search form you can combine all available data fields and limit the search in every imaginable way. For instance, you can search for sequences containing an exact match to one subsequence, but a >80% identity with another subsequence, which had been added within a specific date range and which exceed a specific minimum length.
  3. Homology search: If you want to focus on finding sequences similar to a given template, use the homology search. You can specify a minimum identity level for returned hits, whether to search on the DNA or protein level (DNA is automatically translated in all 6 frames, proteins are matched against translated DNA sequences), and the set(s) of sequences to be searched.
